Treat Yourself Without Spending a Dime

It’s nice to be able to treat yourself every once in a while. But you could treat yourself a lot more frequently if treating yourself was free. It can be! There are plenty of ways to give yourself some special treatment without worrying about your budget.

When I first came to the UK, I used to say “I don’t have money for this.” And this became an excuse to not look after myself. All I knew was work, home, family, and work again. Until I’ve realised, after years, that work, home, and family is not enough to be happy, to be satisfied with your life. Wellbeing is not about others, it’s about you.

So I’ve started looking for the “me time”, those moments when you feel happy even if you are alone. You can treat yourself without spending a dime. And you must start now!

In fact, you might start planning on doing something special for yourself regularly. You only need to make the time and make yourself a priority.

Give yourself the pampering you deserve

Look at an old Photo album

Pull out an old photo album and relive a few memories. You’ll have a few laughs and maybe shed a few tears. I like to remember those good moments from back home. Moments with my friends from childhood, moments with my lost grandparents and mother. Sometimes, my son is spending time with me looking at old photos. He is always laughing about my childhood. What was normal for my childhood is funny for my son.

Create

Immersing yourself in creating something is good for the body and soul! You don’t need paints or expensive art equipment. Just use materials that you find around the house. For example, you can sketch, write a song or a book, compose music, do origami, whittle, and much more. I love knitting. I’ve learnt from my grandma, and even I can remember only the basics, I still managed to knit a very colourful blanket for us. It’s great for winter time.

Window shopping

It costs nothing to look. Go look at new cars, fancy clothes, a giant television, kayaks, or whatever else interests you. It doesn’t hurt to look. I look at colorful dresses. But you will never see me wearing a dress. I’m always wearing my comfortable trousers and a T shirt.


Make your favorite dessert

Whip up your favorite dessert and treat yourself. You’re doing yourself a favor by freeing up space in the pantry. Last week I fancied for doughnuts. You might say its not much, but you can’t imagine how happy I was when I was eating those doughnuts.

Play a game online

There are thousands of games that can be played online for free. You can play by yourself, with a friend, or with 100 strangers. It can be a fun way to spend some time without spending any money.

Listen to your favorite song

Any song can be found online somewhere for free. Sit back, relax, and listen to your favorite album. I prefer old music; however, the music I listen depends on my mood. Give yourself a manicure

Put on a movie and give yourself a manicure that will make your friends jealous.

All you need is a high quality manicure set. Ideally, you will have a full manicure sets which have all tools for pedicure as well. A high quality tools should be made of stainless steel, sharp and durable. I have a rose gold manicure set which is ideal even for travel. Treat yourself with a hot bath

A hot bath for no reason at all is the best kind. If you don’t want or you don’t have time to go to the spa, bring the spa to your home.

At least once a week have a spa at your own home. The benefits are countless: improves blood circulation, relieves stress, helps slow down ageing, is a good aids in promoting a better sleep to count just a few.

I recommend a humper set which contains bubble bath, shower gel, essential oils, hand cream, body lotion, body butter, bath bombs, shampoo and pouf sponge.

A shower can be almost as good.

Take a walk. Walking is free, and it is good exercise too

Walk around your neighborhood, in the park, on the beach. Reconnect with nature to release the stress, lower blood pressure and calms you down. I am one of the most lucky person: I have two parks near my house so, every time I am stressed or I can’t concentrate, I take a walk in the park and when I come back home I really feel revitalised. The nature makes miracles.

Moreover, I collect a leaves, a rock, a feather, something to remember of the walk. Or, that feather or leaves remembers me of something nice from the past- something that makes me smile.

Once I was on holiday on the coast and I found a white rock; I took it and I wrote with black permanent marker “Thank You!” Don’t ask me why! That’s what I felt at that time. Now I have by my bedside and I remember of a great holiday. Moreover, every evening it remembers me to thank for another great day.

Walk alone or take a friend. Just walk and enjoy being outside.

Call your favorite person

A long-distance phone call is free these days if you call on the cell phone. Pick up the phone and call someone you’d love to talk to. They’re probably dying to hear from you. I use to call my friend and having a coffee together while we are on the phone.

Play a game online

Watch your favorite TV show

Binge watch your favorite TV program. It’s relaxing and fun. You’ve already paid the bill for your favorite streaming service anyway. You might as well get your money’s worth.

Local attractions

The park, museum, art galleries, monuments, and other local attractions are often free if you go on the right day. It’s not always necessary to travel to another city to see interesting things.

Go to the bookstore

It’s free to walk around the bookstore and check out the books. Bring some coffee and fit a place to sit. In just a couple of visits you can finish an entire book.

Sunrise or sunset?

Watching the sunrise is free. Actually, watching the sunset is free, too. Personally, I can watch both every single day. The sunrise and the sunset represents our life.

I love sunrise because this represents new beginnings, hope. It is a symbol of birth, of awakening.

The sunset represents the end of the journey, it’s mysterious and brings in calmness. I love the palette of colours, the combination of orange, red blue, yellow and even black.
